Poll shows Bush support on Social Security

Poll shows Bush support on Social Security - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics - January 28, 2005

Be on the lookout for some major stuff on this in the State of the Union address, folks. This is a sure fire winner for the president until the Dems come up with something other than "Crisis? What crisis? THERE IS NO CRISIS! ARRRRRGH! DO YOU HEAR ME!". Younger workers can do the math and realize that a big chunk of change they can pass on to their kids is much better than a small percentage return on money that might not even be there.

The story reports a good majority of americans supporting Dubya on this, with a vast majority of Republicans (74%) supporting and a sizable number of Dems (about 30%) joining them. EVERYONE in the poll knows it's a crisis. The Dems need to do a serious DC two-step if they want to get ahead on this one. Fortunately, if they appoint Howard "AAAAAARRGGGGH!" Dean as their Chair, that will never happen.

On to victory!

Iraqis Defy Attacks to Cast Historic Votes

Yahoo! News - Iraqis Defy Attacks to Cast Historic Votes

Higher than expected turnout, dancing voters, and a cleric that says "Sunni boycott? That was just a....HINT...yeah....we weren't saying they HAD to boycott!".

Looks pretty successful to me. Maybe the racist argument that Arabs aren't ready for democracry will finally die. Let's hope so.

Ted Turner Calls Fox a 'Propaganda Voice'

Yahoo! News - Ted Turner Calls Fox a 'Propaganda Voice'

This article is usual nuttiness from Ted Turner-Fonda, but you have to love Fox's response:

"Fox News in New York issued a statement saying, 'Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind — we wish him well.' "

HA!

Despite Impotent Democrat Whining, Rice Takes Over As Top U.S. Diplomat

Yahoo! News - Rice Takes Over As Top U.S. Diplomat

85 - 13 was the vote. Despite the stupid article's comparison to a 27-14 vote in 1825 (hello, that's a third of the body voting against, not 13% you idiot), this is an overwhelming confirmation, particularly considering the current partisan climate. All the Dems did with their lame extended debate (did you hear Robert Byrd?...snore) was display their total impotence in the Senate. Thanks, guys! Tell Teddy and Joe to keep up the good work.

Props to Lieberman in this debate - he showed his independence and moral courage here.

A brilliant point in San Antonio

Where Are the Human Shields?:

Breezing through the internet today I saw the above brilliant article. This quote sums it up nicely:

"Well, a bombing campaign is now under way in an urban environment against a civilian population. There's no guesswork involved. We know where the next atrocity is going to occur. If you and your movement were inclined to do so, you could go to Iraq en masse and try to stop the bombings of polling sites, political offices and the nascent institutions of a free, democratic Iraq.

It could be that the shields perceived less danger from American bombs two years ago than they do from insurgent bombs today. That is to say, they were willing to make an anti-American political statement when there was relatively less personal risk, but are unwilling to make a pro-Iraqi humanitarian statement when the risk is greater. "

The reason they are not there is that they were reasonably sure that the EEEEEEVil American military wouldn't actually bomb them. Remember the stories when those that actually went to Baghdad and were directed to military targets as actual shields realized that they were going to be in harm's way? I remember the blur they left behind as they headed back to their lives as debutantes, actors, and professors of things like "revolution studies".

However, if they wanted to protect people they knew would be in harm's way from a known threat, they could go over and line up in front of polling places, hold hands, and sing "Kum ba yah". The difference is that the holy warriors doing the bombing would LOOOOOve to blow them up, too. With that fact assured, we're not likely to hear "We Shall Overcome" from crusading lefties in Iraq any time soon. They would rather leave it to the marines.

The irony echoes in the chamber that used to hold the integrity of the American Left.

RMR salutes The Oscars

A New Feature on the site: SAAAAAAAlute!

We salute the Oscars for not responding to Mr. Moore's underhanded tactic of refusing to offer his film as a documentary in order to get a best picture nomination. Mr. Moore's full page ads in Variety apparently didn't convince anyone he had made an actual piece of art (although it was a piece of fiction). Please note that the Passion got three nods with no campaign at all. Funny how Moore only mentions getting the People's Choice Award (a plurality vote, to be sure, like all liberal victories) on his website and not getting dissed (just trust me - I read it so you don't have to). Did he get the Golden Globe for comedy - no that was another REAL MOVIE.

Apparantly Scorsese and Eastwood are ACTUAL FILMMAKERS and are more deserving of recognition.

So, to the Oscar Voters - SAAAAAAAAAAlute!

Confirmation of Rice Certain

Yahoo! News - Confirmation of Rice Appears Certain

Guys, it doesn't just "appear" certain, it is certain. What did you expect after a 16-2 committee vote? Later in the article, the author says "What had seemed at the outset to be a cinch turned into sometimes angry debate over Bush's decision to go to war with Iraq, his struggle with a potent insurgency and Rice's role in helping him make a case for overthrowing Iraqi President Saddam Hussein." The democrats' extended debate on the issue only served to display their total and complete impotence - She would be nominated by a comfortable margin if NONE of them voted for her.

Quick sideline - what's the deal with Evan Bayh voting against her. Maybe Mr. Moderate is running for president...

So it's NOT a crisis now?

Rich Lowry on Social Security on National Review Online

Rich Lowry has it a little wrong here. Social Security is a crisis. When I'm putting money in something every month and it won't be there when I retire, it's a crisis. Also, the time to fix it is now when the fix is less painful, not in twenty years when people my age are going to keep seeing the retirement age moved ahead of them until they never get the money.

This is the new Dem plan: "Crisis? What crisis?". Here are a few examples: here, here, and here.

The old mantra about history starting for liberals this morning is alive and well. Wasn't Clinton always trying to "save Social security" for "the children"? What exactly was he saving it from? A hug?

Clinton talks about saving social security from something in this radio address, this one, and in these remarks for the press. Also, the American Society on Aging details his plan, which includes government investment in the stock market.

Google search "social security not crisis" and you'll see how in lock-goose-step the Partisan Press is with the Dems on this one. Hopefully americans will see past the hutspa of calling something a crisis for twenty years and then claiming it's no big deal.

Yahoo! News - US Republican Chair Draws Party Fire on Abortion

Yahoo! News - US Republican Chair Draws Party Fire on Abortion

Uh...draws fire from whom? If you read this headline you'd think Mehlman spoke at an abortion rights convention or something and the whole party is hopping mad (that's what I was expecting when I clicked on the headline). But it's really about pro-choice Republicans (a minority of the party) being upset about Mehlman scheduling an event to honor pro-life marchers (who represent at least the point of view of most republicans - i.e. pro-life). This is part of a pattern of negative Republican and Bush stories this week that really amount to zilch, zero, nada. Note that no real party leaders are quoted and the only one referred to says she'll go with the President.

Nice try, guys.

Rice will sail through

Yahoo! News - Rice on the Defensive Over Iraq, Integrity

Shouldn't the headline be: Rice expected to receive easy confirmation?

You know that the Partisan Press is reaching when they quote an editorial from the New York Times before discussing the actual, uh, event that they are supposed to be reporting on! Also, please note that no positive senatorial comments are even reported ("While Republican senators hailed Dr. Rice's foreign policy experience, Democrats..." - for example. It's not that hard, guys).

This is a classic example of reporting the way the press wishes the world was, i.e. with a Democrat majority in the Senate, rather than the way it is. The story yesterday was "Despite partisan attacks by Democrats on the minority on the committee, Dr. Rice is expected to cruise to easy confirmation in a Senate dominated by Republicans." But good luck finding it anywhere.

Long time no see!

Well, with the holidays and first week at my real job I have been unable to even read the news for the last month. So...I'm not going to post anything really substantive until I get back up on the news. I must comment on Mr. Kennedy's speech this week in which he said that Dem's represent a "majority of Americans". Well, since the Republicans currently control both Congress and the Presidency, I hope Teddy's version of "majority" continues to grow! Does he mean a majority attending the Golden Globes? Let's hope that Mr. Kennedy's speech this week is a harbinger of Dem tactics for the next two years, because if it is most of the agenda is in the bank.
