Who disarmed the bomb?

Mike DeWine of Ohio
Susan Collins of Maine
Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island
John McCain of Arizona
John W. Warner of Virginia
Olympia J. Snowe of Maine
Those are the names. This is why the Republican majority will never amount to a hill of beans. Complete and total spineless members and leadership. As far as I am concerned there will never be a single one of these people that will get my support for anything. Sometimes compromise is a good thing...but sometimes there is right and there is wrong. Changing the constitution so that you can throw a snittering fit over every single judicial appointment that comes down the pike is an easy right vs. wrong call. This is the time when the adults SHOULD have snatched back the argument from shrieking children and put an end to this nonsense. INSTEAD we have a group of Republicans that have forged this "compromise" that does nothing more than give up the only leverage we have. Congratulations RINOS you have proven yourselves the most spineless of all Republicans...talkshows and press conferences await you. You just sold out your party for TV time. Hope you enjoyed it. In the immortal words of Jack Nicholson "All you did today was hurt your country!"

GOP Urges Quick Judicial Confirmations - Yahoo! News

You can read about the much-lauded salvation of the Senate in the above article. Arrgh.

As much as one can follow this story in the Midwest staying in a house without cable or the internet (AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! - but they were nice folks, so no shame on them), I have been anticipating the blessed sight of a mushroom cloud over the Democratic party's obstruction on judicial nominees. Alas, I underestimated the capacity of Senate Republicans to be friggin' wussies and also John McCain's capacity for arrogance (I know, I should have definitely known better on that one).

Number one - is anyone voting for McCain in a primary in '08? (note extended uncomfortable silence).

Number two - notice that the Dem's can violate the deal and quibble about "extraordinary circumstances", whereas if the Republicans want out, they have to break the deal entirely (i.e. no "extraordinary circumstances" out for them) - really odd when you think that the deal would have absolutely not worked without even two of them. You'll see this happen when they bring up the next nominee - "extraordinary circumstances! We are forced by conscience to filibuster!"

Number three - the only saving grace is that it does give a few of the saner Dems like Lieberman and Nelson a slight opportunity to be more openminded than Dusty Harry and the gang would be. Maybe they will be statesmen...but don't hole your breath on that one.

Anyway, back today, gone again for about a week. Hopefully the Republicans can keep from just surrendering the whole Senate until then.

Stay tuned...

I'm doing an opera gig now, and it just doesn't pay to write a conservative blog with artsy types looking over your shoulder, so I'll post again real soon. Thanks for your patience, regular readers (all twelve of you!).

Thanks,
